From 1 July 2026, Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) obligations will apply to certain services provided by Accountants.

The key obligations are to:

  1. Enrol with AUSTRAC (31 March 2026 to 29 July 2026)
  2. Develop and maintain an AML/CTF program tailored to your business:
    1. Address ML/TF/PF risks your business may reasonably face based on its nature, size, and complexity
    2. Consider who your customers are, the services provided, how services are delivered and country risks
    3. Develop and document policies, procedures and controls used to identify, mitigate, and manage risks
    4. Implement controls that are appropriate and proportionate to the identified risks
  3. Conduct ML/TF risk awareness training and establish governance and oversight
  4. Conduct customer due diligence
  5. Report certain transactions and suspicious activity
  6. Make and keep records
